Membership
The Centre for Multiparty Democracy- Malawi (CMD- M) is a membership organization for political parties with representation in the National Assembly.
Representation in the National Assembly is understood to mean that a party has to have a Member of Parliament through either general elections or by elections.

In addition, CMD-M membership is open to political parties with at least two councilors.

In accordance with article 4.2. of the CMD-M constitution, the Centre may include political parties without Parliamentary representation upon the determination of the board of CMD.

The CMD Board

Members of the CMD board are Secretaries General of the represented political parties and two duly appointed senior officials from each political party, provided that such members have requisite qualifications, skills and competencies that the board determines periodically.

These appointments are made by individual parties in writing to CMD-M. The board has a position of Chairperson which is rotational in alphabetical order of member political parties.

The Chairperson’s tenure of Office is one year (12 months).

The rotation of the position of Chairperson rolls over to the next general election cycle.
